Contact lens Fitting

At Stephen Beirne Optometrists we have vast experience in contact assessments and follow up(aftercare). Most people can wear contact lenses and we can give you the best advice regarding types available and the benefits of each type.

Becoming a contact lens wearer

All you have to do is book a contact lens assessment with the Optometrist. They will go through the types of lenses with you and discuss your lifestyle needs and wants.

It is the Optometrist who first puts the lenses on your eyes. The feeling when the lenses are placed gently on the eye is not sore, they feel slightly cold and moist. The eyes react by tearing slightly but with modern materials that settles down after about 30 seconds to 1 minute.

The optometrist will then check your vision and the make sure the lenses fit well on your cornea(clear part on front of the eye).

Teach Appointment

You then have a "teach appointment" booked to be shown how to put the lenses in and out yourself: this isn't as hard as it sounds and most people manage on their first teach appointment.

If you dont manage on your first appointment , we are happy to rebook until you manage.

Once you can put the lenses in and out , one of our experienced colleagues will take you through a list of "do's and dont's" with contact lenses that you should follow during your trial.

You are then given a number of trial lenses to take away and thats it.

We give you a further follow up(aftercare) after 1-2 weeks to make sure you are ok and you can ask any questions you may have.

At the end of this you can join our hastle free contact lens scheme , where you get the lenses posted directly to your door.
