CHILDREN'S EYECARE
Childrens eyesight is very important for their overall development. It is important children have an eye examination in their early years to make sure they have normal vision. Good vision is essential to help development of social skills, learning ability and motor skills. It is very important to get your child's eyes examined even if you think they are ok.
Eye conditions in children
-
Short-sightedness (myopia) , this is trouble seeing objects at distance but can see objects up close.
-
long-sightedness is a difficulty focusing on near objectsbut also can affect distance vision if the prescription is high.
-
astigmatism can affect vision at distance and near. It is due to a "rugby ball" shaped cornea (front of the eye)
-
amblyopia(lazy eye), this is where only one eye doesnt develop vision properly and the brain only concentrates on the "better eye".
-
strabismus(squint), this is a misalignment of the eyes and can sometimes be corrected with spectacles or surgery if detected early enough in development.

When should children have their eyes examined?

Children under 16 yrs of age should be seen yearly for an eye examination,at least. They should have this checked even if you feel there are no issues.
