Contact Lens Types

The majority of patients are suitable for contact lenses. There are a few different types of contact lenses and to choose the correct type for you we take into account your lifestyle wants and needs.

These lenses are worn once for up to 16 hours per day and then discarded. These are great for occasional wear, for under 16's and for sports and leisure.

2 weekly disposable lenses

These lenses can be worn up to 16 hours every day for 2 weeks and then discarded. You simply remove them at the end of the day and give a clean and store them in solution overnight. They can then be used the next morning.

Monthly Disposable lenses

These lenses can be worn up to 16 hours a day for 1 month and then discarded. You simply remove them at the end of the day and give a clean and store them in solution overnight. They can then be used the next morning.

Multifocal Contact lenses

These lenses are for people who need distance and near vision corrected , like when you wear varifocal or bifocal spectacles. They correct your distance, middle and near vision at the same time and available in daily, 2 weekly and monthly types.

Rigid gas permable lenses

These lenses aren't fitted as much now. They are a harder material but are good at correcting higher levels of astigmatism ( rugby ball shaped cornea) or keratoconus. These can also be worn up to 16 hours per day. They are normally discarded after 6 or12 months.Multiple solutions are used to clean and disinfect at the end of each days wear.

Most people can wear them to give a fantastic alternative to use alongside their spectacles. Why not book your contact lens assessment now?
